This year’s Taiwan Lantern Festival blended tradition and innovation, merging culture with technology. The two main exhibition areas—A18 “Main Lantern Exhibition Area” and A19 “Lights Playground”—covered approximately 20 hectares and featured over 300 lantern art installations. Compared to the festival’s previous edition in Taoyuan nine years ago, 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival introduced popular intellectual properties such as Pokémon and Attack on Titan, drawing large crowds eagerly to line up and check in. The main lantern, PARADISE, inspired by the infinity symbol, incorporated AI and motion capture technology, offering a stunning main lantern show. Additionally, for the first time, a baseball stadium was transformed into a lantern zone, featuring the largest baseball-themed lantern and a concert-grade light show. These elements created a vibrant “playground” and a joy-filled “wonderland” for both local and international visitors.

Taoyuan City Mayor Chang San-Cheng highlighted the record-breaking achievements of this year’s festival in various aspects. In terms of transportation, the Taoyuan Airport MRT saw its highest single-day ridership on February 15, reaching 270,000 passengers, with another peak of 220,000 on February 22. The two highest ridership records in the MRT’s history occurred during the festival, demonstrating its strong transportation capacity. Additionally, for the first time, the Taoyuan City Government collaborated with Google Maps to provide real-time updates on road conditions around the festival, significantly improving traffic management.

During the closing ceremony, Mayor Chang expressed his gratitude to Tourism Administration, M.O.T.C., the Taoyuan City Government team, and all participating organizations for their contributions in making the festival a spectacular and unforgettable event. This year’s festival was supported by over 4,000 volunteers, as well as numerous police officers, firefighters, medical personnel, tour guides, shuttle bus drivers, and sanitation workers, all of whom played a crucial role as the driving force behind the success of this annual grand event. Mayor Chang emphasized that, as President Lai Ching-Te stated, it was the close collaboration between the central and local governments that enabled the successful execution of such a challenging task. Lastly, he expressed his anticipation for the 2026 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi, hoping it will mark another brilliant chapter in the history of the festival.
